Another service we provide is image colorizing, similar to old-time tinting, but much more subtle and realistic. This really brings
portraits to life! On historic photos, it is important to research the material as well as possible for accurate color choices. We always
mark our historic images, if they have been colorized.
This is a very effective means for museums to give old photos new vibrancy, as it brings out many details that tend to just disappear
into the background in black-and-white prints.

Before and After Restored and Colorized Image
|
Restoration of damaged/faded photos is our specialty. We cater to museums, historical societies, historians, authors, family
archivists and geneologists. References and cost estimates are provided gladly.
With over 40 years of restoration experience, coupled with state-of-the-art computer imaging software, faded and frayed
black and white or color photographs can now be restored to like-new, and often better than new, condition. Scratches,
creases, stains, tears and abrasions can be removed, and color adjusted or added as appropriate. Archival quality prints are
then made from the restored images. For permanent safe-keeping and/or distribution to family members, images can be burned
to CD or DVD media.
Costs, of course, vary greatly. If only small prints are needed, much less work is involved, often less than 15 minutes per
image. On the other hand, if large prints are needed for wall, gallery or museum display, any tiny scratches and imperfections
that don't show in a small print, become glaring defects unless painstakingly removed. It's tedious, time-consuming and
exacting work, but it is essential to a high-quality end product. Long experience and sensitivity to the historical significance of
details guides us in our work. Most of the photographs we restore are irreplaceable, and we treat them accordingly.
Images can be sent to us as high-quality scans, or shipped in as-is condition, well-packaged and insured.
Our normal charges are $50 an hour; prints, framing, CD's and DVD's are additional. Please let us hear from you!
