Fall 2005 Photo Freight on the SVRy
The Sumpter Valley Railway is a 3 foot gauge line, a restoration, following the old right-
of-way in NE Oregon, using some of the original locomotives and rolling stock.  It
operates in a very historic area with gold mining remains throughout the valley.  I lived
along the tracks for a few years and made many photographs of the operation.

Visit the Sumpter Valley Railway's Website.
Early Morning with No's 3 and 19
No's 3 and 19,  early on October 15th, 2005, the two steam locomotives of the
Sumpter Valley Railway await the coming day of railfan photography. Soon both will
be pulling freight trains through the fall foliage, stopping often so the passengers can
photograph the trains against the fall backdrops.  Max size;  36" x 24".

SVRy 19 as WY&P 81
The Sumpter Valley Railway hosted a chartered photographer's special in June of
2006, re-lettering the locomotive and train for the White Pass & Yukon. Originally
an SVRy locomotive, she was shipped to WP&Y during World War II and
operated there for many years as the #81. Returned to the restoration group at
Sumpter,in the late 70's, she was restored and put in operation on the original right
of way.  Max size;  16" x 24".

SVRy No 19 poses as W. P. & Y. R. 81.
In the spring of 2006, Number 19 was dressed up as she appeared during the war
years, which were spent in Alaska on the White Pass & Yukon, another 3' narrow
gauge line. She returned to Sumpter in the late 1970's for restoration to her original
SVRy appearance. For a special charter, she was back dated in looks to the
"Alaska" military look.   Max size;  24" x 16".

Boys and Their Toys
Sumpter Valley Railway's Fall Freight Photographer's Special on October 15th,
2005 brought out some of the best of the boys and their toys. Cameras and steam
locomotives really go well together! Much of my own photography goes back to
wanting to photograph trains when I was around 12 or 13 years old!  Max size;
24" x 16".
