Oregon Mountains

Oregon is a very diverse state, with its ocean beaches, temperate rain forest, lush western
valleys, high desert, and several mountain ranges. This section of my site features photos from
the Coast Range, Cascades, and Wallowas. I may add Steens Mountain, and others in time.

After the thunderstorm chased us out of the higher, Hoffer Lake, we almost made it back to the car
before the rain came. Looking at Gunsight Mountain, across Anthony Lake, with the huge drops rippling
the water, I shielded the camera with my body for one last Panoramic photo.

Antone Creek, covered with water skippers, forms a peaceful foreground for Anthony Lake and
Gunsight Mountain. This is one of the many high mountain lakes near Baker and La Grande Oregon, in
the Elkhorns. Maximum print size is 56" X 44"

Hoffer Lake is actually a small lake pair of lakes in the Elkhorns near Baker City, Oregon, nestled below
Gunsight Mountain. A short hike and 400 feet of elevation gain, from popular Anthony Lake, gets you
to this quiet pair. There's a small waterfall dropping across a granite face into the farther one, which is
slightly higher, separated by a huge, old beaver dam. A major thunderstorm chased us out of here
shortly after taking this photo!
